Gary Trevor

Born Saltash, Cornwall, UK, October 13, 1953, whilst his father was stationed in the British Royal Navy there. When his father’s service was finished, Gary’s parents wanted to return to the country of their birth, Rhodesia, which became the nation of Zimbabwe in 1979. The Rhodesian National Railway was offering free passage for workers and their families who signed an employment contract, so the young family returned to southern Africa when Gary was two years old.

Gary matriculated from secondary school at the age of 16 and decided to get his one year of mandatory national military service out of the way. He then joined the police department for several years as a patrol officer and high-speed driving instructor at the police academy.

Raised in church, Gary applied to a Texas Bible College for a one-year scholarship as a foreign student, and arrived in Dallas in 1978. He met and married his wife, Debbi, and they completed two-year A.A. degrees in Practics of Theology. They were both ordained, intending to return to Zimbabwe as missionaries. An unplanned pregnancy circumvented those plans and the Trevors stayed in Dallas to work for the Bible College which they had attended. Their two children, Jonathan and Keturah, were born there.

In 1983 Gary moved his family to California to be closer to grandparents and cousins. Meanwhile, his own mother, step-father and brother had emigrated from Zimbabwe to California.

Gary is a “people person” and discovered his niche working in food & beverage, front desk services, and sales, for major hotels. He transitioned a few years later and is currently a Supervisor at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport terminal for United Airlines.

During a three year posting in Denver Gary had many discussions with his wife’s cousin, Jack Jackson.   Their desire is to raise support for the endeavors of two long-time friends who had demonstrated commitment over a twenty year period to providing elementary and secondary education, feeding programs, clothing and shelter to the very poorest at Manaaim in Parelheiros, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Pongola, South Africa, as well as AIDS orphans at Moriah Centre in Swaziland. Together they formed the non-profit named Building Children of Promise, International.

Gary thoroughly enjoyed being a father involved in his children’s education, sports, music and spiritual development, and that of their friends.  Most of all, Gary and Jack share the spirit of having fun – which any child in the world readily responds to.  It is their greatest joy to take care of the basic needs first, empowering a child to flourish in their own culture.

Gary's goal is to work full-time raising funds for BCOPI after retiring from United a few years from now. Gary and Jack pay all their own expenses when one or the other of them visit the programs yearly in Brazil and Africa. They also seek to bear the costs of administration, shipping and legal for BCOPI. This allows them to forward nearly 100% of funds raised, via cash or requested school, dental, medical, or food supplies, to the children assisted by these programs.

Richard Hamilton

Born in Longmont, Colorado grew up north of Firestone, Colorado on a family dairy farm. I married Karen Kelley in 1974 and moved west of Hygiene. I joined IBM in 1977 holding various engineering and project management jobs, which took me to many countries throughout the world for business reasons. Now, retired from IBM and working for InfoPrint Solutions Company I continue to travel with my job and for missionary purposes, as well as leisure. I traveled to Gulfport, Mississippi on two different occasions with several others to do work after hurricane Katrina went through and the latest to Big Bend, Swaziland, where Jack Jackson and I worked on the Moriah Center. I am excited to be able to do more mission work in the future. I enjoy hiking, fishing, camping, snow-shoeing, hunting, and being outdoors in general. I manage my own yard maintenance business in my spare time!
